Light Skin vs. Dark Skin: How Pop Culture Perpetuates Colorism | Thanks to cultural imperialism, white supremacy is the reason behind colorism, internalized racism and self-esteem issues existing in African American communities to the need of social justice reform. And thanks to Hollywood's colorism playing a hand in linking lighter-skinned individuals to perceptions of beauty and worth, the type of representation that popular culture dishes out can really be seen in media portrayals of African Americans around the world.
