While that idea can sometimes work in calm conditions, it often falls apart as soon as any real-world pressure is introduced — such as traffic lights, cars behind you, or a busy junction.
In this video I explain why that advice isn’t always a robust method, and why understanding what your left foot is actually doing at the biting point is far more important.
Before adding more complexity with the accelerator, it’s important to become aware of the connection phase of the clutch — the moment when the clutch plates begin to connect and the car starts to move.
Once you understand and feel that properly, the next stage is learning how to use your right foot together with the clutch to move away more confidently and smoothly.
This video focuses specifically on developing awareness and control with the left foot first, before introducing the next layer of coordination.
