In this video, we’re having a bit of fun with the classic learner problem — the seat that mysteriously moves forward every single lesson. Somehow it gets closer and closer to the steering wheel every time.
But jokes aside, setting your seat up properly makes a huge difference to control, comfort, and efficiency.
Step 1: Foot Position on the Clutch
When pressing the clutch pedal, you should be using the ball of your foot, not your toes and not your whole foot flat.
You need to be able to press the clutch quickly and fully to the floor without stretching or straining.
Step 2: Leg Position
When the clutch is fully pressed down, there should be a slight bend in your left knee.
Not locked straight.
Not overly bent.
Just a comfortable, controlled bend that allows quick, smooth movement.
Step 3: How to Tell You’re Too Far Away
If you have to move your lower body or lift your hip off the seat to get the clutch fully down, you’re too far back.
That movement isn’t efficient.
It reduces control and slows your reactions.
Your legs should be doing the work — not your whole body shifting around.
Bonus Tip: Backrest & Posture
You should feel supported in the seat, not slouched and not reaching forward.
Sit upright with good posture.
You shouldn’t need to lean forward to steer.
A good check:
You should have a slight bend in your arms when holding the wheel.
Your wrists should roughly reach the top of the steering wheel as a guide.
You should be able to see clearly over the wheel without obstruction.
Good seat setup = better control, better awareness, and less fatigue.
