Description
June 3, 1988 - The lone bright spot within a battered and fatigued starting lineup, Boston Celtics forward Kevin McHale finished with 33 points and 11 rebounds in a 95-90 season-ending loss to the Detroit Pistons in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Edging toward the latter portion of a decade that saw them win three championships in five NBA Finals appearances, the Celtics began to show significant signs of wear and tear. Larry Bird averaged less than 20 points per game on 35 percent shooting in six games against Detroit, including a 4-for-17 performance in the closer, exceeded in futility by only Danny Ainge, who connected on just one of his eleven Game 6 attempts.
