"Keep It Together" was written on 4/7/23 while reflecting on the memory of my Father's passing. On the 1 year anniversary I grilled steaks for the family since my father loved grilling and I played tracks from Beck's Sea Change album. Maning the grill, I stood outside in my parent's backyard and a wave of grief hit me so hard that I could barley keep myself from falling to the ground... bawling. "Guess I'm Doing Fine" was the song that opened the flood gates. I had recorded my own version of this song years earlier and Dad listened to it on the day his father passed away. I remember him crying in the living room and it broke my heart to see him in so much pain... This seems like such a sad story, but there's still a lot of beauty in it. Music helps us work these emotions out so we can feel the grief instead of distracting ourselves to keep it at bay. I cried a lot when my Dad died and I'm not ashamed or embarrassed to admit that. I loved the man and respected him. Now I can honor him through music and it doesn't hurt anymore to think about him. I cherish the good times and reflect on lessons learned.
If you're dealing with grief and loss my thoughts are with you. It will get easier, I promise. There will come a day when you smile while listening to their favorite song.

Keep It Together (Lyrics)
I put on Beck - Sea Change
Guess I’m Doing Fine was the song that played
As if someone opened the flood gates
At 1 year today you went away
Chorus 1:
But I can Keep It Together
There’s a memory in every song
I can Keep It Together for her
No, I’m not the only one
I can Keep It Together
Haven’t felt like myself in so long
But I can Keep It Together for her
Knowing this was your favorite song
Verse 2:
You bought me a guitar when I was 14
And you always loved the songs I sang
You said I played it better than Springsteen
And I laughed cuz that’s something a father would say
Chorus 2:
So I can Keep It Together
There’s a memory in every song
I can keep it together for her
You were always there for everyone
I can keep it together
Haven’t felt like myself for so long
I can keep it together for her
Hearing you say, “I’m so proud of you son”
Bridge:
I know you listened to the record that I made
Shortly after your father passed away
Cuz Mom heard you in the other room crying
And now as I stand here I know why…
Chorus 3:
You had to keep it together
There’s a memory in every song
Had to keep it together for her
No, you weren’t the only one
Had to keep it together
Hadn’t felt like yourself in so long
Had to keep it together for her
Hearing him say, I’m so proud of you son”
