The iPhone Duo has earned a place in my pocket, and I’m keeping my Pro Max too. In this iPhone Duo review, I explain why after a week with Apple’s first foldable iPhone. The bigger display opens up new ways to watch, read, play, and get things done, but the $2,000 price comes with some real compromises. If you’re deciding between the Duo and an iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max, I’ll show you what you gain and what you give up.
The 7.6-inch nano-texture display is the biggest reason to consider the Duo. I cover how it looks indoors and outside, why the crease is much less noticeable in person, and how the hinge holds the phone at different angles. With iOS 27 multitasking, you can run two apps side by side, keep a video playing in a floating window, and still bring up the keyboard. I also look at games that respond to the fold and the difference between apps built for the Duo and apps that waste its screen space.
The iPhone Duo camera test gets especially revealing at a Doja Cat concert. From my seat, the Duo struggled to capture stage detail that my iPhone 18 Pro handled well. I explain where the missing telephoto camera matters, how the Duo performs for everyday photos and video, and why Duo Preview makes rear-camera selfies so useful. You’ll also see what the under-display FaceTime camera is good for and why I’d choose one of the other cameras for photos.
Battery life held up through a full day without a midday recharge during my week of use, including that concert. Touch ID was more frustrating, with repeated fingerprint scans making me miss Face ID. I also cover Siri AI, hands-free video and FaceTime, and the MagSafe accessories that don’t fit the Duo’s shorter body. By the end, you’ll know whether the larger screen and new ways to use it are worth the trade-offs for you, who should keep a Pro or Pro Max, and why I’m choosing to carry both.
