Description
How do you replace the PCV valve on a 2018 Kia Sportage? In this step-by-step DIY video I swap the PCV valve on our 2018 Sportage with about 150,000 miles on it, using just pliers, a 21mm deep socket and a ratchet. A clogged PCV valve can stop working and lead to extra oil consumption, and since this car drinks a lot of oil and the valve is an inexpensive maintenance part, it's an easy thing to replace at home in your driveway.

❓ FAQ
Q: Where is the PCV valve on a 2018 Kia Sportage?
A: Pull off the plastic engine cover (it's held on by push clips) and the PCV valve is right on top of the engine, with a hose and spring clamp attached to it.
Q: What size socket do I need to remove the PCV valve?
A: A 21mm deep socket on a ratchet. Mine came out pretty loose.
Q: Can a bad PCV valve cause oil consumption?
A: A PCV valve that's clogged or stuck can lead to extra oil consumption. In my case I could still feel the plunger moving inside the old valve, so I don't think it's the main cause of my car's oil burning (I suspect the rings), but at 150,000 miles it's a cheap maintenance item worth replacing.
Q: How do I check if my PCV valve is bad?
A: Wiggle or shake the old valve. You should feel the little plunger moving around inside. If it's stuck or clogged up, it's time for a new one.
Q: How tight should the new PCV valve be?
A: Thread it in by hand first, then snug it with the socket. Don't crank down on it, because the valve and the valve cover are plastic.
Q: Is this a hard job?
A: No, it's a super easy maintenance repair you can do in your driveway in a few minutes.
