Description
Learn how to add a simple fold over button band to a top pattern in this step-by-step sewing tutorial. This easy sewing pattern hack is a great way to customise simple shell tops and tank-style patterns, adding a functional button opening and a lovely design detail without needing a separate button band pattern piece.
In this example, I'm using the Closet Core Azure Top, but the same principles can be applied to lots of similar sewing patterns that are drafted to be cut on the fold.
Along the way, I also share some of my favourite tips for pattern matching fabric across a button band, helping you achieve a more professional finish when working with prints, stripes or embroidered fabrics.
The fabric used in this project is a beautiful embroidered fabric from Fabric Godmother, and I have also used the flat lining method to line the garment.
