Mike Delinquent & KCAT break down the making of My Destiny (Original 4/4 Mix), their 2006 club hit that became a huge viral trend 20 years later.
My Destiny is a track with a long history. Released in 2006 by Delinquent, the original mix of the track was a garage record with a swung 2-step beat and R&B-inspired vocals from KCAT. The original came backed with a 4/4 rework that took off in the emerging bassline scene that was growing out of clubs in the Midlands and north of England.
Fast forward 20 years to 2026, and My Destiny re-emerged as a viral hit on YouTube and TikTok, powered by a surprising adoption by the neurodivergent community, who connected with the track's ad lib vocal chops. That viral success helped put My Destiny back in front of a new generation of bassline fans, resulting in the track being re-released this summer backed by remixes from the likes of Special Request and Sunship.
We sat down with producer Mike Delinquent and co-writer and vocalist KCAT (who are now partners with kids of their own) to talk about the making of My Destiny, its longevity and viral success.
