Description
As a printmaker, it’s always worth taking a second look before throwing something away. You never know what might become your next favorite gel printing tool!
Recently, I found these feathers in my backyard. I love printing with feathers, and found ones are even better than store-bought. Their irregular shapes and natural variety create beautiful, one-of-a-kind prints.
For this print, I used a technique I often use with leaves: first, pick up the paint surrounding the feathers, then fill the open feather shapes with the leftover paint that was protected underneath. Instead of using white paper for the final pull, I printed onto a sheet of cleanup paper to add unexpected color and depth.
👩🏻🎨Artist Tip: If the paint underneath the feathers has started to dry, let it dry completely before pulling the print. Then use a layer of matte medium as your pickup layer for the best results.
