This DIY Mancala board tells the story. In this project, Artist Kim Bloomberg turns an egg carton into a Gelli Arts® gel printed Mancala board-inspired by a spontaneous game with her nephew! 🥚
When she realized a standard egg carton had the same number of compartments as a Mancala board, she had to turn it into a piece of functional art!

🧩 How to Make a Gelli Arts® Gel Printed Mancala Board
Supplies:🔴 Gelli Arts® gel printing plate🎨 Acrylic paint🖌️ Foam brush🎞️ Painter’s tape or skinny washi tape📄 Tea bag paper, tissue paper, or deli paper📦 Mod Podge🎡 Brayer💎 Glass flat-back gems (50)🥚 Egg carton🧻 Wet wipes🖼️ Stencils✂️ Scissors
Instructions:
1️⃣ Cut off the top of your egg carton, and trim any side flaps.2️⃣ Cut the ends off the lid-these will become the side pockets for your Mancala board.3️⃣ Glue the lid ends underneath the carton, slightly off the sides, to form two extra compartments.4️⃣ Create 5–10 Gelli Arts® prints using your gel printing plate, brayer, stencils, and paints.5️⃣ Once dry, apply Mod Podge to one section of the carton.6️⃣ Tear small pieces of your prints and press them into the Mod Podge.7️⃣ Add a layer of Mod Podge on top to seal.8️⃣ Repeat until the entire surface is covered.9️⃣ While that dries, gather your 50 glass gems.🔟 Apply Mod Podge to your leftover prints and press the flat backs of the gems onto them.1️⃣1️⃣ Let dry, then cut or tear off any excess paper.1️⃣2️⃣ Let everything dry completely-and enjoy your custom-made Mancala board!
