Before you grab another handful of chips this summer, check the bag. This food recall alert is serious, and I mean that literally. The FDA just upgraded the Utz brand potato chip recall to a Class One recall, which is the highest level they issue. Class One means there's a reasonable chance that eating these products causes serious harm or death. This is a health alert you cannot scroll past.
The specific chips pulled are from the Zaps and Dirty brands, including salt and vinegar, Maui onion, big cheesy, sour cream and onion, and Bayou blackened, with best buy dates running through August 31st, 2026. The culprit is Salmonella, a bacterium that can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea starting as soon as six hours after eating contaminated food. For people who are immunocompromised, salmonella can get into the bloodstream and cause meningitis, endocarditis, or worse. Throw those bags out. Right now.
