Opis
In 1387, Paduka Sri Maharaja was succeeded by Parameswara (later Iskandar Shah) as King of Singapura. During his reign, Parameswara accusing one of his concubines of adultery and publicly executing her.
Sang Rajuna Tapa, the concubine's father and also minister in Singapura's court, secretly sent a message to the new Emperor of Majapahit, Wikramawardhana in revenge. He pledge his support should the Emperor choose to invade Singapura fueled with dissatisfaction.
In 1398, Majapahit Empire dispatched a fleet of 300 jong and hundreds of smaller vessels (of kelulus, pelang, and jongkong), carrying no fewer than 200,000 men. This expedition triple the size of previous expedition in 1350 which failed to subdue Singapura.
Majapahit soldiers engaged with the defenders in a battle outside the citadel, before forcing them to retreat behind the walls. The invasion force laid siege to the city and repeatedly tried to attack the Citadel. However the fortress proved to be impregnable.
After about a month passed, the food in the citadel began to run low and the defenders were on the verge of starvation. The final assault came when the gates were finally opened under the order of the minister Sang Rajuna Tapa.
Knowing that defeat was imminent, Parameswara and his retinue fled the island. The Majapahit soldiers rushed into the fortress and a terrible massacre ensued.
