The Battle of the Yarmuk (also spelled Yarmouk; Arabic: معركة اليرموك) was a major battle between the Roman Empire and the Rashidun Caliphate near the Yarmouk River in Roman Syria that marked a crucial point in the Caliphate conquest of Syria. The result of the battle was a decisive Caliphate victory that effectively ended Greco-Roman rule in Syria spanning centuries since conquest of Alexander the Great.
