"What is wrong with you? Why are you standing on the track?" asks Ed after stopping Big Boy UP 4014 to reprimand a trespasser standing directly on the tracks! This emergency situation highlights why the 25-foot safety rule is so critical for steam engine tours. Railroad tracks are private property. Standing on the tracks or too close to the ballast is not only illegal trespassing but puts the crew and the preservation of these historic locomotives at risk. This happened in Ashtabula, Ohio on July 13, 2026 just after Big Boy started their day.
