DEF DELETE LEGAL Soon? Presidential Pardons, Delete Kits & BIG Diesel Changes?

Scotties Hobbies Video 1 months ago

Description

Are DEF deletes and diesel deletes about to become legal again?

That's one of the biggest questions I've been getting lately, especially with everything happening around diesel emissions regulations.

And things just got even more interesting.

We've seen presidential pardons involving people convicted in diesel emissions tampering cases, while diesel delete kits and tuning equipment can still be found for sale online. At the same time, EPA has been reconsidering some of the rules surrounding DEF systems, including the dreaded derates that can leave a perfectly running diesel truck crawling down the road because of an emissions-system problem.

So what does all of this actually mean for diesel owners?

In this video, we're talking about DEF deletes, DPF deletes, EGR deletes, diesel tuning, delete kits sold online, presidential pardons, and the changing federal rules surrounding diesel emissions systems.

There's also some confusion between two pieces of legislation worth clearing up.

DERA, the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act, is aimed at funding projects that replace, retrofit, or upgrade older diesel engines and equipment. It is NOT a bill legalizing diesel deletes.

Then there's the Diesel Engine Flexibility Act, or DEF Act, which deals much more directly with DEF system reliability and EPA's recent changes surrounding DEF-related failures and derates.

EPA has also proposed major changes to heavy-duty emissions regulations that the agency estimates could reduce the cost of a new heavy-duty vehicle by as much as $6,000.

That's potentially good news for truck owners.

But here's the important part.

Presidential pardons do not automatically change federal emissions law, and seeing a delete kit for sale online doesn't necessarily mean it's legal to install it on a street-driven vehicle.

So no, this isn't the green light to start ripping emissions equipment off your truck.

But between the pardons, proposed EPA changes, congressional action, DEF reliability changes, and the continued availability of delete equipment, there is a LOT happening in the diesel world right now.

I'll break down what's changed, what hasn't, and what diesel owners should be watching next.

👇 WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Should manufacturers be allowed to design DEF systems that don't cripple a truck when an emissions component fails?
