When we released “Vajra” in January 2018, it brought together two careers from opposite coasts of the US. Joeski came up in the New York club world of the early 90s. Doc Martin, originally from San Francisco, made his name in the Los Angeles underground. By the time this record came together the two were trading remixes and playing back to back, with vocalist Lillia turning up across several of their collaborations. On “Vajra” the groove sits deep and dark while Lillia adds her voice in short phrases that echo out into the dub space around her.
Talking about the EP that year, Joeski and Doc Martin described pulling from ska and tribal right through to Latin and dub with no barriers in between. Decades of club experience from both coasts went into this one. Eight years later it is still the track you should reach for when a room is ready to go deeper.
