The film revolves around Mihika Banerjee (Lara Dutta), a highly sophisticated, clean-freak, and successful investment banker based in Mumbai. When she accidentally misses her flight to Delhi, she is desperate to find any alternative route to reach her husband, Lt. Col. Vikram Rana (Akshay Kumar). Her path crosses with Manu Gupta (Vinay Pathak), a loud, paan-chewing, middle-class saree merchant from Delhi who is her polar opposite. Due to a series of flight cancellations and highway blocks, the mismatched duo is forced to travel together across roads, local buses, and trains through the heartlands of Rajasthan.
As they navigate rural towns like Nua and Jhunjhunu, Mihika’s elite, high-class life is turned completely upside down. To make matters worse, her purse gets stolen, leaving her entirely broke and dependent on the street-smart Manu. Traveling in crowded unreserved train compartments and sharing rides on dusty local trucks, Mihika initially despises Manu's lack of manners, but slowly begins to appreciate his golden heart, resourcefulness, and unmatched optimism.
