Here I'm using a Boya BY-MM1 cardioid semi-shotgun microphone plugged into my Panasonic V900 camcorder via a 3 metre microphone cable in the form of a test.
The microphone placed in the clock picks up the ticking sound ''loud and clear'' with no noticeable attenuation of audio along the 3 metre cable....but....there was some low level hum, which is to be expected.
Conclusion: You can get away with a 3 metre mic cord, but anything longer than that would not be recommended (in the case of the Boya BY-MM1 microphone).
