Description
Presenter: Laura Clark Briggs
This webinar will illustrate how American autumn documents and narratives, ranging from short fiction to historical and autobiographical texts, can serve as accessible entry points for comprehension and vocabulary instruction. Drawing on public domain materials that highlight seasonal imagery, traditions, and regional voices, the session will review a variety of reading comprehension and vocabulary instructional practices. We’ll discuss the close relationship between vocabulary and reading comprehension, recognizing vocabulary as one of the most important predictors of comprehension in both L1 and L2 reading. Flexible strategies, including low-bandwidth and offline approaches, will be shown throughout the session to support participants in effectively applying the ideas in their own classrooms.
