For English language learners, the gap between textbook English and the accents they hear in movies and everyday life can be a major challenge. This practical webinar will explore how teachers can help students understand different regional accents, using Southern American English as an engaging example. Together, we’ll look at a simple step-by-step way to study an accent’s key sound patterns and unique idioms, review important vowel sounds, and examine the real meaning of everyday phrases in the U.S. South. By the end of the session, participants will have a better understanding of American English, as well as a practical toolkit to help students confidently understand the many types of English spoken around the world.
