Description
Presenter: Emily Box
English is a global language spoken by more than a billion people, and its many varieties differ in accent, vocabulary, and usage. These differences can sometimes create confusion or miscommunication, even between fluent speakers. Among the world’s Englishes, American English is one of the most widely taught and used internationally. This session will introduce key features of American English and examine aspects such as vocabulary and pronunciation, as well as values and communication styles. Throughout the session, participants will reflect on similarities and differences between American English and the English they know, gain insights into how these variations shape interaction, and consider practical strategies for bringing these ideas into their own classrooms to help students build linguistic competence and develop more effective communication.
