Description
Helen Mirren, Alden Ehrenreich, and director Anton Corbijn reveal some of the stranger behind-the-scenes details from A Talent for Murder, including the production's unusually valuable snails and the animal wrangler tasked with handling them.
Speaking with Collider about the 2026 film, the cast and director discuss bringing Patricia Highsmith's world to the screen and how the story's ambiguity shaped their performances. Mirren explains why the script was so difficult to predict, while Corbijn shares how he approached directing experienced actors with very little rehearsal time.
Ehrenreich also reflects on the influence of The Talented Mr. Ripley and how Anthony Minghella's adaptation presented a more sympathetic version of Highsmith's famously slippery character. The conversation turns to the challenges of translating theatrical scenes into cinematic storytelling, including Corbijn's use of low camera angles and different positions within the central house.
Beyond the performances, the trio discusses filming locations, the movie's 1980s-inspired costumes, and the talented supporting cast.
But one of the funniest stories involves Highsmith's fascination with snails. The production had a snail wrangler, some surprisingly large snails, and a memorable joke that proves even the smallest performers can steal a scene.
