• New Overhead Press PR in the Bag

After 5 full days of rest from weight training, I smashed a large instant coffee, some Monster and got myself to the gym to test my overhead press strength.

I had been following the 'Dreadnought' program structure, which I've done a few blocks of in my past, and it was a lot of fun.

My previous best was about 73kg / 161lbs, a year ago and at a lighter bodyweight - as I'm heavier now I aimed for 75-80kg.

Warming-up I felt strong, especially as I had to wait a while for the equipment to be free which made me feel like a caged animal due to the excessive caffeine intake.

I believed 75kg would be 'easy' and it somewhat was - giving me room to shoot for something higher still.

I took out my cute little 0.25kg micro plates and added another kilo to the bar to bring me to 76kg - also bagged.

77.5kg was going to be a grind, especially considering the max intensity work I had already done - regardless I gave it two attempts and both were fails.

I think I'll be trying pin presses for the first time in my following training to try and get stronger at the sticking point at my forehead.

Nonetheless, super happy with an outright OHP personal record almost a year since my last one and looking forward to starting another block - aiming for that big eight-zero.

76kg / 167.5lbs @ 99.5kg / 219.5lbs bodyweight.
