Subaru now has three EVs and the smallest, the 2026 Uncharted might be the electric Crosstrek buyers have been waiting for. Shorter than Solterra (but the same width) it packs up to 338 horsepower. Check your CH-Ronometer, (see what I did there?) it’s mighty quick, maybe the swiftest vehicle the brand has ever offered. But the requisite Subaru sensibility, practical hatchback utility and surprisingly good off-road chops remain. Even though it’s essentially the twin of Toyota’s CH-R.
In this review, I test the top trim Uncharted GT, talk range, charging, interior quality, cargo space, ride comfort, AWD performance and whether this Toyota-based EV still feels like a real Subaru. There’s also Mudfest 2026 off-road testing because Whole Foods parking lots were too crowded.

The Uncharted is quick, quiet, practical and unexpectedly entertaining to drive. But there are compromises too, including rear seat space, average route planning tech and the fact that Toyota fingerprints are basically everywhere.
If you’re shopping for a compact electric SUV like the Hyundai Kona Electric, Kia Niro EV, Chevy Bolt, Nissan Leaf or Toyota C-HR EV, this one deserves a look. Especially if you need AWD.
