WWII's Coolest Weapon

Today I Found Out Guide 10 days ago

Description

The Second World War saw the development of all kinds of hyper-advanced weapons, from radar to jet aircraft, ballistic missiles, and atomic bombs. Yet it was often the simplest weapons which had the greatest strategic impact. As we have already covered two of the war’s greatest unsung secret weapons were the Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel or ‘Higgins Boat’ and the humble Jerry Can, a version of which is probably sitting in your garage right now.

But two other humble WWII workhorses are far better remembered, in part thanks to their unusual names: the U.S. Army Truck, 1/4-ton, 4x4, Command Reconnaissance - better known as the Jeep; and 2.36 inch Rocket Launcher M1 - AKA the Bazooka.

But how did these iconic weapons come to be, and how did they get their curious names?
