Will Off-the-Shelf High-Strength Concrete Work for Thin Molds? Let’s Find Out.

Description

Looking for a faster, easier, and cheaper way to pour your own concrete raised garden beds? In this video, I’m testing an incredibly accessible alternative to custom mixes: high-strength 6000 PSI ready-mix concrete!

In the past, I’ve used specialty CSA mortars and custom Portland blends for my thin garden panels. But today, I want to see if a standard, off-the-shelf 6000 PSI bag mix can deliver the same smooth, high-quality finish while saving us time and money. We will put it to the test side-by-side in both my DIY wooden molds and ABS plastic molds.

What you will learn in this video:

How to get the perfect water-to-concrete ratio with a 6000 PSI mix

Step-by-step pouring and vibrating techniques for thin panels

Proper curing times and easy unmolding tips for wood and plastic

How to quickly smooth and dress concrete edges for a professional look

This 6000 PSI mix worked beautifully and yielded a fantastic, smooth surface. However, I know it isn't available everywhere. Have you tried casting thin panels with a 5000 PSI blend? Drop me a comment below and let me know your results!
