For more than 2000 years, humans have marveled at its brightness and impossibly long tail that seems to stretch forever into the cosmos. Many of history's most famous, and notorious, figures have been inspired and influenced by perhaps the most famous infrequent visitor to the inner solar system.
But, Halley's Comet is no spring chicken. Even when first documented by humans, it had already been doing laps around the sun for countless thousands of years. And, with every tour, it loses material to the sun's warming influence. How long can that continue before there's nothing left to see?
