What is the rarest eye color? At first you may think it is red or violet, which is true but is usually due to albinism where the blood vessels become more visible to give it that appearance. And as such another eye color that might come to mind would be gray, however, this often gets confused with blue eyes so statistics I’ve read range from less than one percent to upwards of three percent. So for simplicity I’ve chosen green as only around two percent of the global population have them according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology. However, they aren’t actually green since there are no pigmentations of that color in the iris… Instead this is due to a low amount of melanin and the presence of lipochrome which is a yellowish pigment, combined with a blue hue caused by the Rayleigh Scattering Effect, in which light gets reflected and dispersed, is the reason we can perceive green eyes. But determining if your baby is going to have green eyes is a lot more complicated as scientists explain that sixteen different genes help determine eye color. Besides, no baby is ever born with green eyes, since they start to appear over the next couple of months to years. I mean just take me for example, I noticeably went from blue to green, and now it’s harder to stare into people’s souls.
