Beetle Adventure Racing was Need For Speed on Nintendo 64, except it wasn’t Need For Speed on N64, it was Beetle Adventure Racing on N64.
Genuinely though, it was meant to be a Need For Speed game. On Nintendo 64. It ended up nothing of the sort, and was all the better for it. Let’s go back and have a look at how BAR came to be, how Paradigm Entertainment just up and ignored EA’s instructions to make a Need For Speed for N64, and how the finished product was - and still is - really bloody good.
