The Most Emotional Moment of My Camino… | Episode 11

The Geocaching Vlogger Podcast 23 days ago

Description

In Episode 11 of my Camino de Santiago adventure, I experience what would become one of the most emotional and meaningful moments of my entire 500-mile journey across Spain.

Today, I arrive at Cruz de Fierro — the Iron Cross.

High in the mountains along the Camino Francés stands a simple iron cross atop a tall wooden pole, surrounded by thousands upon thousands of stones left behind by pilgrims from around the world.

But these aren't just ordinary rocks.

Each stone represents a story. A burden. A memory. Something someone is ready to let go of.

For generations, pilgrims have brought stones to this sacred place, often carrying them from their homes or from the beginning of their journeys. The tradition is to leave your stone at the foot of the cross, symbolically releasing something you've been carrying in your life.

And today, it was my turn.

I had been carrying a stone with me on the Camino. It represented something personal. Something I needed to release.

As I approached the Iron Cross, I knew this wasn't going to be just another stop along the trail.

This was going to be a moment I would remember for the rest of my life.

In this episode, I share the experience of arriving at Cruz de Fierro, reflecting on the meaning behind my stone, and finally placing it among the thousands of others left by pilgrims who came before me.

It's a powerful reminder that while we all walk the same Camino, every pilgrim is carrying something different.

Some are carrying grief. Some are searching for direction. Some are celebrating life. Others are hoping to find peace, forgiveness, healing, or a new beginning.

And sometimes the most important thing we do on the Camino isn't moving forward.

It's learning what we need to leave behind.

The Camino has already given me incredible friendships, breathtaking scenery, unforgettable adventures, and plenty of geocaches. But this particular moment reminded me that the Camino is about so much more than walking 500 miles across Spain.

It's also about the journey happening inside of us.

💛 Buen Camino!
