In this video we look at the hidden history of Manchester Victoria railway station. We go behind the scenes of this old Lancashire and Yorkshire railway building. The main station dates to 1909 but there are earlier parts that date to 1844. Built by the Lancashire and Yorkshire railway. It is a splendid Edwardian example of Railway architecture. We go into the abandoned parts of the old building and seek out hidden history and historic gems from the past. We look at the area around this part of Manchester and how the river Irk is incorporated into the structure of the station. We look at old maps of Manchester to see what was on this site in the past. Old cotton mills. There are a number of historic features in the railway station that we can look at. Old safes, and intriguing old toilet and the pre station layout of Manchester before the railway station was built.
