The Elton John Story is a 6-part radio series, written and produced by well known radio host Paul Gambaccini. It was produced for and aired on BBC Radio 1 in 1976.
Part 2, ‘Rocket Man’, takes listeners on a journey from ‘Your Song’, the seemingly counterproductive release of 4 albums in 1971, and ends with Elton back on top with his hit ‘Rocket Man’.
Woven in amongst Paul’s narration are interviews with Elton, Bernie and many of their early collaborations such as Nigel Olsson and Gus Dudgeon amongst others .
This recording was taken directly from a tape recording of the initial broadcast and shows signs of being 50 years old, but it is a very informative and interesting listen, nonetheless.
