The Elton John Story is a 6-part radio series, written and produced by well known radio host Paul Gambaccini. It was produced for and aired on BBC Radio 1 in 1976.
Part 1, ‘The Mission’, takes listeners from the very early beginnings of Elton’s career, backing Bluesology, meeting Bernie Taupin and his eventual overnight success in the US following his debut performances state-side at the Troubadour in August 1970.
Woven in amongst Paul’s narration are interviews with Elton, Bernie and many of their early collaborations such as Tony King, Gus Dudgeon and Doug Weston.
This recording was taken directly from a tape recording of the initial broadcast and shows signs of being 50 years old, but it is a very informative and interesting listen, nonetheless.
