In Episode 3 of Teranga Chronicles, we take a short ferry ride from Dakar across the Atlantic to visit Gorée Island (Île de Gorée). 🇸🇳💔
While Gorée Island is known today for its quiet, car-free streets and colorful colonial architecture, it carries a deeply heavy history. We spend the day exploring the landmark that stands as a powerful memorial to human history: the House of Slaves (Maison des Esclaves) and its haunting "Door of No Return."
Standing in that doorway looking out at the ocean is an experience I will never forget. Join me as we walk through the museum, speak with local historians, learn about the resilience of the Senegalese people, and experience the modern-day culture and art vibrant across the island today.
This was easily the most emotional and powerful day of the entire trip. If you are planning a visit to Senegal, Gorée Island is an essential place to pay your respects and understand the history that shaped the region.
