I finally touched down in Dakar, got checked into the city, and set out to experience my first 24 hours in the vibrant capital of Senegal. But what started as an incredible arrival quickly turned into one of the most intense, emotional nights the city has seen in years.
Just as I was getting settled, it was Match Day. I joined the locals to watch the massive World Cup Round of 32 knockout match: Senegal vs. Belgium. The atmosphere in Dakar was absolutely electric when the Lions of Teranga went up 2-0 thanks to stunning goals from Habib Diarra and Ismaïla Sarr. But football is a cruel game...
With less than 5 minutes left in normal time, Belgium pulled off an unbelievable comeback. We witnessed absolute heartbreak live from the streets of Dakar as Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans scored in the final minutes, sending it to extra time, only for a controversial 125th-minute VAR penalty to eliminate Senegal 3-2.
