Lake Stevens police have launched a criminal investigation into a suspicious fire that damaged the cafeteria at North Lake Middle School, as the district hopes surveillance video will help explain how the overnight blaze started.
Jayme Taylor, executive director of communications for the Lake Stevens School District, said the district is working to determine what happened. “We’re just trying to figure out how it happened and why, and we’re very fortunate that everyone was safe,” Taylor said.
The Friday night fire burned a large hole in the school’s roof, charred rafters and filled the cafeteria with thick smoke, along with significant water damage.
