An illegal street takeover in Sumner was shut down by police Wednesday night, prompting a large response from officers with the Sumner, Bonney Lake and Puyallup police departments.
Around 8 p.m., officers responded to the city's warehouse district in the 3900 block of 150th Avenue Court East, where several drivers were reportedly racing and performing dangerous stunts.
"As they were arriving in the area from several blocks away, they could see the smoke from burning tires. They could hear the sounds of vehicles racing," Sumner Police Chief Andy McCurdy said.
