Local and federal law enforcement agencies say they took 17 violent repeat offenders off the streets during the World Cup as part of Operation Red Card.
Those arrested are facing a range of felony charges, including gun-related offenses, assault, robbery, extortion and unlawful imprisonment.
Officials with the FBI, Seattle Police Department and other agencies said they had been preparing for the World Cup for years. Part of that planning involved identifying some of the area's most violent offenders and focusing on taking them into custody.
