Description
Steam rises, snow falls, and a secret society comes to life. In Japan’s Honshu mountains, snow monkeys turn hot springs into social hubs with rules as precise as clockwork.
From strict grooming codes that calm tensions and strengthen bonds to a surprising winter protein boost hidden in their nitpicking, this episode reveals how Japanese macaques survive four months of snow. We follow young outsiders testing clan politics, a troop passing down a playful snowball tradition, and a culture-shifting moment sparked by a potato washed in the sea. Along the way, we contrast their world with Borneo’s solitary, map-minded orangutans nesting high in the canopy, Morocco’s Barbary macaques using infants as peacemakers, and Maasai Mara baboons negotiating friendships, rank, and high-stakes politics.
Discover how touch becomes language, play becomes power, and survival becomes culture. Watch to see what the hot springs don’t show at first glance—and why primate society says more about us than we expect. Press play and step into the steam.
