Description
On the front gate of Camp Bastion, a cocker spaniel named Molly decides who gets through.
Step inside the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, from Melton Mowbray’s Defence Animal Centre to Helmand’s IED threat. Watch 16 raw recruits meet bite-trained protection dogs under Sergeant Fiddy, then face their first real “release the dog” moment. Meet Ollie Steadman and explosive search dog Sawyer on patrol, and a young spaniel, Bracken, learning to pinpoint cordex by scent alone. Britain’s Got Talent finalist Kate Nicholas swaps the stage to prep puppies for war, while in London the Household Cavalry’s horses return from “holiday” with one surprise foal changing the plan. At Bastion, Cassie Giles works vehicle lanes with spaniels Mags and Molly, where a single indication can halt an entire convoy.
What do handlers look for before they trust a dog’s nose over every sensor? Which tiny training tweak turns curiosity into a life-saving indication? And why do the strongest bonds often end at the airbridge? Watch the full story to find out how animals and soldiers detect, protect, and save lives on and off the battlefield.
