Description
Snohomish County leaders are moving forward with a proposed public safety sales tax to help prevent cuts to law enforcement and the criminal justice system, but the plan would leave people paying twice in some cities.
The Snohomish County Council has scheduled a public hearing for Aug. 12 on a proposed 0.1% sales and use tax, known as the Justice Fund, before deciding whether to adopt it.
If approved, the measure would generate an estimated $20 million each year to pay for sheriff’s deputies, the county jail, prosecutors, public defense, the courts and other criminal justice services beginning in 2027.
