In this in-depth Roland FP-40 review and buyer’s guide, Tony White from Bonners Music takes you through the new piano, demonstrates its sounds and explores the most important improvements Roland has made.
The FP-40 retains Roland’s excellent PHA-4 Standard 88-note weighted keyboard, but introduces the latest Piano Reality piano technology, a completely redesigned speaker system, USB-C audio and MIDI connectivity, and Roland’s new Piano Sphere learning and practice platform.

The FP-40 is designed for everyone from developing pianists buying their first serious digital piano through to experienced and returning players looking for a compact 88-note instrument. At 14kg, it can work equally well as a home piano or a portable instrument for rehearsals and gigs.
If you already own an FP-30X, we also look at the differences between the Roland FP-40 and FP-30X and discuss where you’re most likely to notice the improvements.
