Description

An arrest report for former Pensacola Police Officer Matt Baxter outlines the illegal sexual material he allegedly stored on his personal cell phone.

WEAR News previously reported that Baxter is charged with:

four counts of possession of child sexual abuse material
30 counts of sexual activity involving animals
four counts of digital voyeurism
two counts of using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony

The new charges came after authorities initially arrested Baxter earlier this month on drug possession charges.

According to Baxter's probable cause report, authorities found more than 1,800 bestiality files on his iPad. Investigators also reportedly found four files of child sexual abuse material.

Additionally, authorities say Baxter had four photos that he personally took of unknown individuals using the bathroom.

"I think broken trust is the best way to describe the immediate impact that this had on us," Pensacola Police Chief Eric Winstrom said.

"I want the parents out there to understand that I couldn't better empathize with hearing upsetting news about this issue," Mayor D.C. Reeves said Wednesday. "We've got the best team that you could possibly have to ensure that this situation is brought to justice."

Baxter provided security for staff and students at A.K. Suter Elementary School. The school district says there’s no indication the images were of children at the school.

"Kids are raised to see certain professions as a safe profession.," says Stacey Kostevicki, executive director of Gulf Coast Kid's House.

Kostevicki says it's important to notice if a child has an uncomfortable reaction around an individual.

She encourages parents to talk early and often with children about when to speak up.

"We want it to be a calm conversation. We don't need to be graphic with any of the details. Just again, that sometimes people that are supposed to be safe make bad decisions and do unsafe things," she said.

Gulf Coast Kid's House is also actively working with personnel at A.K. Suter Elementary School to work through the impacts of this situation.

Baxter has been released from Escambia County Jail on $300,000 bond.
