Welcome to song number 9 of this video series. "Redemption Day" is one of the most powerful and profound songs Iâve ever covered. Originally written by Sheryl Crow, Johnny Cashâs version gave it a haunting depth that really struck me. A few years ago, a duet version was released, blending both voicesâan incredibly powerful moment in music history.
I actually started recording this song when I was working on my first A Life In Black album, but it just wasnât ready for release at the time. I wanted to make sure I did it justice, and I knew it needed something more.
For my version, I wanted to capture that same epic feel. I went all in and brought in a string quartet to give it that cinematic and almost orchestral vibe. Itâs probably the most ambitious song on this project, and I really hope it resonates with you.
To me, this song feels more relevant than ever with everything going on in the world. Itâs a song about accountability and redemptionâmessages that feel urgent today.
