Red-Breasted Sapsucker - Dungeness River Nature Walk on Father's Day Part 2

Description

There is nothing that I would rather do than go for a nature walk along the Dungeness River at the Fish Hatchery on Father's Day and the first day of summer! In addition to the gorgeous weather, the clear normal flow level aqua-green Dungeness River and beautiful wildflowers, we came upon what we thought were some kind of redheaded woodpeckers chirping and pecking at the bark in young deciduous trees next to the river. But later, a group of birders who had just been observing and photographing these same tree sap-sipping birds informed us that they are Red Breasted Sapsuckers.

In Part 1 video, Diane and I and Skye take the small path through the woods that leads to the River bank and ends at the junction of the exit of the waterway where salmon migrate several times a year to the Adult Pond at the Dungeness Fish Hatchery. Skye, our Norwegian Elkhound remembers chasing salmon earlier this year when they were migrating up this shallow waterway to spawn.
