Description
India have won the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup, but the biggest talking point after the final was not just the cricket. 🇮🇳🏏
India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs in Dubai to claim their record-extending eighth Women’s Asia Cup title. Smriti Mandhana scored 59, Shafali Verma made 68, and Shree Charani took 4 wickets as India dominated the final.
But then came the controversy.
The Indian women’s team did not accept the Asia Cup trophy from ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s interior minister. The presentation ceremony was delayed, India were not called up to collect the trophy, and the team later celebrated without the traditional trophy presentation.
India head coach Amol Muzumdar confirmed that the decision followed the BCCI’s position, saying the team stood by the board’s decision.
The incident also brought back memories of the 2025 Men’s Asia Cup, when India’s men similarly did not accept the trophy from Naqvi.
