26:10 - Kagetoki Kajiwara
We do this dungeon with Yoshitsune. It's another ice shrine.
The boss is...some dude we never see again. I feel like they really expected you to already know about the Tale of Genji in detail before playing this because the game really makes no effort to explain who any of these people are. And I'm somewhat familiar with Genji and I don't even know who this guy is.
Really, I found it disappointing we went here for the next area because we already went here in the DLC for Nioh 2, so it's just like it's trying to pick up from there. And we don't actually spend that much time with any of the characters here, except I guess Kurama Tengu because she all but replaces Nekomata from this point onward. Not that Nekomata ever added much to any conversation to begin with.
A lot of the dialogue in this game suffers from, I dunno what you'd call it, but just being filler dialogue, or explaining the obvious. Like you can fight these demon bosses that a shadow of Kunimatsu, your brother, leads you to, they're called like "Demon of Pride" and such, keep talking about Kunimatsu's feeling towards you and after beating them all, Nekomata just goes "I wonder if those demons manifested from Kunimatsu's emotions towards you? :O" and it's like...yeah, of course they did, we can tell from the damn name alone.
Just stuff like that, constantly, no dialogue with any purpose, just characters talking for the sake of it or to bluntly send you in the next direction. And since we've left the Tokugawa era, we don't get to spend more time with those characters, so their relationship with the player just stops there.
Also the game suffers from everyone just loving you immediately, like Ieyasu pretty much starts trusting you with all the most important stuff instantly the moment you appear, it's all just so...expected. This is a game where absolutely nothing will surprise you, and you will not develop any deep ties with any character.
Well except maybe one, but I just ended up hating her lol.
Oh right, the boss. Yeah, the boss is a bit of a bastard here, quick with hatchet attacks and can summon yokai so he's a bit tricky.
