Flood water and debris has surged through the Bhote Koshi river and has caused widespread impact downstream to communities along the Nepali Trishuli river. This is creating a continued risk of secondary flooding, landslides and disruption to vital infrastructures.
Hundreds of people have died and many more are still reported missing.
Significant damage has been reported to villages, roads, bridges, market areas and critical infrastructure.
Communities living along the riverbanks have been urged to move to safer locations. Initial estimates suggest that approximately 40,000 people have been displaced, with these figures likely to increase.
Oxfam is closely following the situation and is in contact with our partners on the ground to support the emerging humanitarian needs.
Initial priorities include: water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), food,
protection and shelter.
