Naurine had suffered terribly over 11 years with constant physical pain. After 10 days in the old Methodist Hospital in Los Angeles in December 1965, Walter and Naurine Bennetts' family physician called Walter into his office. “Walter, there is every evidence that Naurine has a rare disease known as lupus.” He paused while Walter tried to comprehend what he had said. “I do not quite know how to say this,” he said, dropping his head, “but I know you are both Christians and have a different outlook on life than some of the others I treat. Still....” His voice trailed off, and Walter felt his heart leap into his throat. “There is just no easy way to say this, Walter,” he continued. “The disease is incurable and if we are right in our diagnosis, she will probably never leave the hospital alive.”

The ending is a happy one: in fact, just months following receipt of her answer, Naurine was honored to win the _"Woman of the Year"_ award from the Fine Arts Association of Centinela Valley for furthering art and culture (i.e. in 1966). And she continued in her position of over 20 years at Leuzinger High School in LA, as assistant principal and Dean of the Fine Arts!
{Per trivia, an interesting side-note/talking point in relation to this particular Kathryn Kuhman program is _Kathryn's hairdo._ It was very rare when Kathryn would wear her hair up. She quickly reverted back to her former hairstyle that we all know and love, as she didn't feel as comfortable nor authentic with the "updo"🙂}.
